Trinity Lightweight Alabama
Trinity Lightweight produces Riverlite® expanded clay lightweight aggregate using a unique clay deposit, called Potter’s Creek Clay, located near the plant in western Alabama.
Because of the unique properties of the clay, Riverlite® produced in Livingston is the lightest expanded clay lightweight aggregate in America, capable of producing high strength structural concrete with densities as low as 105 lb per cu ft. This clay, when processed using the rotary kiln method developed over 100 years ago by Stephen Hayde, produces a structural grade lightweight aggregate that is unequalled in unit weight, thermal performance and fire resistance.
Trinity Lightweight’s Livingston, Alabama plant, was founded in 1968 when it consisted of two kilns capable of producing over 450,000 cubic yards of aggregate per year. In 1990 the plant was expanded by the addition of a third kiln which more than doubled the plant’s total capacity, to more than 1 million cubic yards.
Riverlite® expanded clay lightweight aggregate is produced to comply with the requirements of ASTM C330, Standard Specification for Lightweight Aggregates for Structural Concrete and ASTM C 331, Standard Specification for Lightweight Aggregates for Concrete Masonry Units. Its low unit weight permits the production of very low density concrete which incorporates low cost natural aggregates in combination with Riverlite®. In concrete masonry, the result is lightweight concrete masonry units with superior strength, texture, fire resistance, thermal performance and acoustical properties.
Riverlite® is a registered trademark of Trinity Lightweight, a Trinity Industries, Inc. company.
