The new Center for Science and Mathematics at California State University, better known as Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, is designed to be a distinctive landmark located in the geographic center of the campus. Under the specifications of the engineer, the concrete mix design for this new structure called for the use of HydroLite™.
A 1,440 foot-long floating concrete breakwater was constructed in the state of Washington using lightweight aggregate produced at Boulder, Colorado. The $8 million breakwater project was designed for the Port of Bremerton Marina to attenuate wind driven waves and ferry wakes. Additionally, it was designed to upgrade the marina’s boat capacity, and enlarge the waterfront public space extending from an upland public park area.
Although ground was broken on November 1, 2006 for the new Mills-Peninsula Medical Center, planning for this new facility began back in 1994 when the California State Legislature passed SB1953, which required by 2030 that all hospital buildings in the state of California be operational following a major earthquake.

The old facility was severely damaged by flooding during Hurricane Katrina.
As if constructing the tallest building in the western U.S. weren’t enough of an accolade, Korean Air recently set a record when a new addition to its property portfolio set an official Guinness World Record for the highest volume of concrete placed within an 18-hour period. Situated in the heart of Los Angeles, the building’s contractors placed more than 80 million pounds of concrete for the new 73-story InterContinental Hotel that’s set to open for business in 2017.
